The heritage of XXXTentacion was hit by a $ 1 million lawsuit by the co-producer of the single “Look at Me!”
The producer Jimmy Duval confirms that he has initiated a lawsuit against the assets of XXXTentacion, managed by the mother of the late rapper, Cleopatra Bernard. According to a February 28 report, Duval and Stache Records have filled the documents to receive royalties due to its role in creating “Look At Me!” Which was co-produced by Rojas. The cause is technically for 1 million dollars, but a representative of Duval says it is a negotiable sum.
After his complaint was published, Duval addressed the issue in a statement. He says that the cause is only for a question of fairness.
“It was my intention to keep the pending issue on the estate of XXXTentacion private. However, given the recent developments and out of respect for someone who was really a legend and a friend in all respects, it is imperative to clarify things, “Duval begins in the statement.
“It is important to note that as a producer behind” Look At Me “, an unstoppable platinum success, I was removed from all credits, which means that all rights and royalties due to me were immediately eliminated,” continues Duval . “It is right that everyone deserves a reward for the works they contribute to, my friend is no longer with us and [I am only] asking to remain part of the legacy we created together with” Look At Me “.”
Duval goes on to say: “X has changed my life and the lives of many others and we want to continue to expand the positive impact that our music creates. I have never failed and will never fail to respect XXXTentacion or its legacy. I’m just asking what is right and fair “.
“Look at me!” Was the song that actually made XXXTentacion a rap star. Although it was released at the end of 2015, the track has not undergone a strong momentum until 2017. This is the year when the song reached its peak, giving the rapper its first big hit. The song became platinum on August 14, 2017.
Hours after Duval’s complaint, DJ DJ XXX, DJ Scheme, offended producer Duval on Twitter. “Jimmy Duval is a fucking pussy for this …”.
“Jimmy wanted to pay tribute to X with Adam on his YouTube channel, and yet you’re here to call XXX a close friend and try to sue his assets,” Scheme continued.
Duval, who also has production credits for Ski Mask The Slump God’s album “You Will Regret mixtape”, was a friend of X before his untimely death. He even tattooed XXXTentacion on his bicep.
