Justin Bieber may have teased a new album during his surprise performance at Coachella, but fans shouldn’t hold their breath in anticipation, a source tells PEOPLE.

The Bieber insider said that while the singer, 25, feels a renewed sense of motivation in getting back into the studio, new music won’t be coming in the immediate future.

“Justin is not about to release another album soon. He started working on a new album a while ago before he needed a break,” the source said. “He is now finally excited about making new music again. However, a new album won’t be finished for at least several months.”}

The “Love Yourself” singer sent Beliebers into a tizzy Sunday when he made a surprise appearance during Ariana Grande’s headlining set at Coachella to sing his 2015 hit “Sorry.”

“I haven’t been on stage in like, two years. I came out here, I had no idea I was going to be on this stage tonight. Absolutely no idea,” Bieber told the crowd. “I had to get my groove back, I had to get my swag back… And by the way – album coming soon.”

Though “soon” may not exactly mean “soon,” the source tells PEOPLE that things are looking up for Bieber, who has been open about his decision to step away from music as he tends to his mental health struggles.

“The amazing thing is that Justin feels motivated to slowly start working on the album,” the insider says. “He didn’t feel like this before. More and more of the happy and positive Justin is starting to emerge.”

The album would be his fifth studio album, and his first since 2015’s Purpose.

A friend of the singer’s told PEOPLE this week that his Coachella performance was a “big deal” for the singer, who is “slowly getting back to feeling normal” after seeking treatment through counseling and therapy.

“He hasn’t performed in a long time. He was very excited though, and felt even better after,” the source said. “He loved reconnecting with his fans.”

A month before his return to the stage, Bieber told fans in a lengthy Instagram post that his music career was taking a back seat as he continued to repair some of his “deep rooted issues” in treatment.

“So I read a lot of messages saying that you want an album .. I’ve toured my whole teenage life, and early 20s, I realized and as you guys probably saw I was unhappy last tour and I don’t deserve that and you don’t deserve that,” he wrote. “You pay money to come and have a lively energetic fun light concert and I was unable emotionally to give you that near the end of the tour.”

Bieber canceled his Purpose tour in July 2017 after 18 months due to extreme exhaustion, a source told PEOPLE at the time.

He told Vogue in March that he sunk into a deep depression while on tour.

“I haven’t talked about this, and I’m still processing so much stuff that I haven’t talked about,” he told the outlet. “I was lonely. I needed some time.”

Meanwhile, Bieber vowed to return to music “with a vengeance” in his Instagram post.

“Music is very important to me but Nothing comes before my family and my health,” he wrote. “I will come with a kick ass album ASAP, my swag is undeniable and my drive is indescribable his love is supernatural his grace is that reliable….,” he wrote. “The top is where is [sic] reside period weather [sic] I make music or not the king said so. 👑 but I will come with a vengeance believe that..
